There are currently over 60 airline companies with regular services to Barcelona. All those carriers listed below currently offer direct scheduled services to Barcelona's El Prat Airport (BCN). Try www.expedia.com for full information on carriers from your local airport, on the specific dates you are planning to fly to/from Barcelona in May 2005.

Airlines with direct services to Barcelona

A complimentary arrival and departure shuttle bus service will operate from and to Barcelona's El Prat Airport on Sunday 22nd May, Monday 23rd May and Thursday 26th May. On Sunday 22nd May, coaches will run from the Airport from 12:00 to 18:00hrs on the hour and every half hour direct to CCIB Convention Centre and Momentum Conference Hotels. On Monday 23rd May airport shuttles will run from 10:00 to 16:00hrs.

Return transfers will be available on Thursday 26th May from CCIB Convention Centre direct to the Airport, from 10:00 to 16:30hrs, on the hour and every half hour.

Click here for the Airport Arrival & Transfer Information page with full details and times of shuttle services.

The airport's Aerobus A1 service is operated by TMB (Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona) and is the best and cheapest way to get to the centre of Barcelona from the Airport. Aerobus services depart for Plaça de Catalunya every 10-15 minutes between 06:00–24:00hrs. The journey time is approximately 20 minutes and a ticket costs about €3.45 for a single journey.

Click here for a copy of the Aerobus information page.

Taxis are also available 24-hours a day from outside the terminal buildings. The average taxi fare to the city centre is €20-25 and the journey time is about 20 minutes depending on traffic. A small additional supplement will be charged for each bag you are carrying, usually around €0.85 per piece. All Barcelona's taxis are black & yellow and a tip of 10% over and above the meter charge is recommended.

During Momentum Barcelona, a complimentary hotel shuttle service will operate between the CCIB Convention Centre and the Barceló Atenea Mar and Vincci Marítimo Conference Hotels from Monday 23rd May until Thursday 26th May 2005. No shuttles will be provided for the Princess and AC Barcelona Hotels as they are adjacent to CCIB, just 2 minutes away on foot.

Shuttle buses will be available early morning and late afternoon to transfer delegates to and from the CCIB Convention Centre.

Click here for a full schedule of hotel shuttle bus times and pick up points.

Barcelona 's metro system is an efficient and economical way to get around the city. There are five lines (L1 – L5) and trains run every 5 minutes from 06:30-01:00hrs.

The major public transport authority in Barcelona is TMB (Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona), managers of the city's network of underground trains, buses, funiculars, cable cars and the last remaining tram line (Tramvia Blau).

Most bus and metro services operate between 05:00-23:00hrs (Sat/Sun to 02:00hrs). There are also night buses (Nitbus) which run every 20 minutes from Plaça Catalunya between 22:00-05:00hrs. Tickets can be purchased at machines located inside stations or at kiosks and travel cards are also available for 1-5 days. Travel cards are a good idea if you are planning to use public transportation often during your stay in Barcelona.

All passes work interchangeably for the metro, bus, urban lines of the FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya) commuter trains and Nitbus services. The T-10 pass is valid for 10 rides and costs €6, a savings of nearly 50% off the regular price of 10 full-price rides. The T-Dia pass is €4.60 and is good for a full day of unlimited travel. Cards are also available for unlimited travel for 2, 3, 4 and 5 consecutive days.

Taxis are an affordable alternative to public transport. A 15-minute journey will only cost about €5. Official Barcelona Taxi's are yellow and black and a green illuminated light on the top of the Taxi indicates that it's available for hire. Licensed Taxis have to charge you the amount displayed on the meter. Tipping for taxis is customary and is about 10% of the full fare.

For travel in the very heart of the city, a taxi may not be your best option: most of the centre is pedestrianised and the roads that do go through the centre can be quite narrow and congested. It may be quicker and easer to use the metro system or to walk.

For Barcelona radio taxi reservations, call Radio-Taxi 033 on +34 93 303 3033 or ask your hotel Concierge to order a taxi for you.
